Position Description:

The Forward Support Systems Administrator role is to provide technical support to users in the field. This includes desktop, infrastructure, network, server, and software support. The candidate will be required to perform installation and configuration of various technologies as required. In addition, the candidates will document standard operating procedures and work closely with the Forward Support Team Lead to assist in the analysis and validation of the business needs of project stakeholders. This includes interviewing stakeholders, gathering and compiling user requirements, communicating findings to support personnel, problem-solving, and managing deliverables to ensure they meet customer requirements.



The position requires a 12 month rotation change between locations in Virginia, USA and Doha, Qatar and will require travel, as needed, to other supported areas in-theater. The individual for this position will provide reporting in multiple formats, as required by the team leadership. The candidate will also document user requirements and After Action Reports following field engagements. The candidate will be knowledgeable of the IT organization and its processes. The candidate must possess great communication and Interpersonal skills to aid customers through understanding of technologies as required. The candidate must also have a solid grasp of the mission and of the issues impacting delivery of services to the area of operations.



Position Responsibilities:

The candidate will perform system administration functions and participate in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. Some of the core responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: 

• Work in coordination with and under Forward Support Team Lead and management leadership to define project scope, vision, and requirements.

• Collaborate with team lead on project schedules and conflicts.

• Analyze and verify requirements for completeness, feasibility, and conformity to organization’s goals and objectives.

• Provide current status reports concerning environment and support requirements to ensure full situational awareness by team leadership.

• Collect and analyze requirements for hardware and software services.

• Document requirements and recommend implementation plans and propose milestones.

• Identifying project stakeholders and end users, as well as their characteristics.

• Conduct interviews and product analysis to gather user requirements/authorizations via workshops, questionnaires, surveys, site visits, workflow storyboards, use cases, scenarios, and other methods.

• Identify and establish scope and parameters of requirements in order to define impact, outcome criteria, and actions.

• Translate user requirements into clear functional requirements for developers/project teams.

• Assist the Team Lead and stakeholders prioritize collected requirements then manage and track the status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

• Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with Team Lead, end-users, and department managers.

• Assist in conducting research on software and hardware products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.

• Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration functions to implement desktop systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives, as needed.

• Assist with change management, vendor management, and problem escalation, as needed.

• Create process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers and/or the project team, as needed.

• Communicate changes, enhancements, and modifications – verbally or through written documentation to Team Lead and other stakeholders so issues and solutions are clearly understood.

• Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, multiple databases, and during data transfer in accordance with business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.

Education Requirements:

• College diploma or university degree in the field of business administration, computer science, finance, or information systems with 4 years related work experience required and 7-9 years of overall work experience.

• Work experience or industry certifications demonstrating technical proficiency may be substituted for education requirements.

• Skilled at working within a team-oriented, collaborative environment

• Strong interpersonal, listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with proven customer service and project management skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. SA Engineering and Provisioning


·    Engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
·    Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
·    Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
·    Contribute to and maintain system standards.
·    Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
Operations and Support


·    Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
·    Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
·    Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
·    Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
·    Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
·    Provide support per request from various users. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
·    Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted users.
Maintenance


·    Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
·    Upgrade and configure system software that supports infrastructure applications or applications per project or operational needs.
·    Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
·    Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
·    Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
·    Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
·    Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science.
·    Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Unix and/or Microsoft.
·    Four to six years system administration experience.
COMPLEXITY/PROBLEM SOLVING:
·     Position deals with a variety of problems and sometime has to decide which answer is best. The question/issues are typically clear and requires determination of which answer (from a few choices) is the best.
